This is a very touchy subject and not meant to offend anyone. I just read this article and thought I would pass along the information and thinking of some of our society.
We are all concerned with reducing our own carbon footprint. Did you ever stop to think that Tabby and Rover have a carbon footprint, too? Yes, they eat meat. The article suggests that our animals could become vegan. I’m not so sure the veterinarians would agree that our pets are meant to eat only grains.
Another argument is that our “cats and dogs consume resources, devastate wildlife populations, and contribute to pollution and the spread of disease.” In fact, they have included this graphic which indicates it is better to own an SUV than a medium or large sized dog.
Shocking, I know. No where have they indicated the benefits of having a pet in your life. Many times I have read that pets enhance both the emotional and physical health of their owners – especially the elderly. I know that my dog brings me lots of joy and happiness.
This article speaks of other ideas for handling the carbon footprints of our pets, but I will let you read them for yourself. I’d rather not discuss them here as I do not endorse them.
